How to use product Unit & Quantity
This article offers insights into the utilization of the "Unit" attribute for products within the platform and its influence on the purchasing experience. It also delves into the implementation of quantity selectors, highlighting their importance in enhancing customer decision-making.
The "Unit" attribute refers to the specification associated with each product in the platform. It determines whether customers can purchase multiple quantities of a particular item simultaneously. By configuring this attribute, you can enable or disable the quantity selector feature for specific products based on their nature, such as physical goods or services.
Managing Quantity Selection
Enabling the quantity selector feature is crucial when selling physical goods or services that can be purchased in multiple units. This feature allows customers to select the desired quantity of the product they wish to purchase. The "Quantity selector enabled" option should be positioned on the right side to indicate that multiple units can be chosen.
For services or products where only a single unit can be purchased at a time, the "Quantity selector enabled" option should be set to the left side. This restricts customers to selecting only one service unit, such as for SEO analysis or consulting sessions.
Quantity selection visualization and positioning
The HeadQ quantity selection visualization offers three options.
- Input: where the buyer specifies the number of units they want by entering a numeric value.
- Slider: Allows the buyer to select the desired number of units using a slider with both a minimum and a maximum range (the maximum can be left undefined for an unlimited selection).
- Date Range: used for scenarios such as renting products, where the buyer selects a time (full days) to get a price. The date range can be set to limit how close to today the reservation can be made and how far in the future the reservation can go (this can also be left open-ended).
All pricing types work with these options, and each unit can be customized.
In the Quantity selection settings, you can choose whether the quantity selector appears at the top or bottom of the product layer, allowing you to optimize the user interface based on customer preferences.
Customizing Unit label
The quantity selector labels can be customized based on the nature of the product or service being sold to enhance clarity and user experience. For example, when selling hours, the label "hour" can be displayed on the quantity selector to indicate that customers can select the number of hours they wish to purchase.
Proper configuration of the "Unit" attribute and practical usage of quantity selectors are crucial in e-commerce platforms. By enabling or disabling the quantity selector feature and customizing labels, you can provide customers with a seamless shopping experience, whether selling physical goods or services. Understanding and implementing the appropriate quantity selection options significantly impacts customer satisfaction and convenience.
Advanced Use Cases: Multi Factors
Multiple variables can be added to the "Unit" field in advanced cases, allowing for more complex sales configurations. The quantity field typically asks for the number of products or services purchased. However, with HeadQ, more sophisticated setups can be achieved.
For example, if you need to ask for a product's length, width, and height, you can add multiple variables to the Quantity field. Within the settings, you can define a name for each variable, an optional suffix (e.g., cm, kg, €), and specify allowed values, including a maximum limit and increments in which users can define values.
All the principles mentioned in this article remain applicable in these advanced configurations, providing flexibility to sell more complex products or services.
